WSUS upgrade showing inherited approvals
John 7/2/2007 3:18:01 PM
All,

Does anyone know what inherited approvals are after the WSUS v3.0 upgrade
and what to do about it?

These "inherited" approvals were previously approved for install (and
installed) before the upgrade. I have many machines showing they need these
updates again.

Thanks,
John

John... that would be "Inherited (from the PARENT group)".. e.g., in most
cases, Inherited from the setting for "ALL Computers". It has nothing to do
with the upgrade, per se, unless you had applied approvals to the "All
Computers" group -- in which case, they are now "inherited" by default.
(Actually, they always were inherited by default, it's just a a different
presentation in approval dialog box.)

Really!? Now.. I must admit, I've never seen the WUA report an update as
"Needed" to a WSUS server if it was previously installed, and still
installed.

Lawrence,

As for the inherited, I assumed that was the case (but best to know for
sure). The new presentation threw me off a bit.

As for the already approved updates, you have a good one here! From what
I've noticed since the upgrade, I'm beginning to believe the v3.0 identifies
(from a visual standpoint in the console) needed updates much better than the
v2 (SP1). I'll simply go though them & approve as necessary.

Thank you again for your assistance,
John
