Clients/Servers not receiving updates (WSUS 3.0)
RZetlin 6/8/2007 2:20:01 PM
I have WSUS 3.0 installed on my Windows 2003 server.

My clients and servers are not receiving updates from the WSUS server.

I have approved the updates already.

The computers are showing up in WSUS.

The computer and server can ping the WSUS server.

The GPO is enabled:

Specify Intranet Microsoft Update Location has been set to 192.168.2.1
Configure Automatic Updates: Auto Download and notify of install

When I check the logs I got one server reporting:

Error 0x80072ee6

One test workstation is reporting:

Error 0x80004002

Any suggestions as to why the updates are not being downloaded?

It would have helped immeasurably if you had posted some actual
configuration information

> Specify Intranet Microsoft Update Location has been set to 192.168.2.1

But taking this statement literally, in combination with the error code
0x80072ee6:

0x80072ee6 - ERROR INTERNET UNRECOGNIZED SCHEME

I'd venture an educated guess that you've misconfigured the =URL= that goes
in the "Specify Intranet Microsoft Update location policy".

Configure it as a =URL= and it will likely work. (e.g. http://192.168.2.1)

I don't know why it's reporting as WSUS 2.0 when I have WSUS 3.0 running.

I did upgrade WSUS 2.0 to WSUS 3.0.

I ran clientdiag:

Two notes here:
[1] What it's reporting here is the =client= version, not the server
version.
[2] The CDT was written for WSUS 2.0; it's not been updated for WSUS
3.0; thus, it's totally ignorant of the WSUS 3.0 client, at this point.
Ergo, any WUA at v5.4.3790.1000 or later will be reported as
"WSUS 2.0"

So.. is this the CDT output from the "one server reporting"
or is this the CDT output from the client (no longer) reporting the
0x80072ee6 error?

Now...I still need for you to answer the unanswered question from my last
reply:

> Checking Connection to WSUS/SUS Server
> WUServer = http://192.168.2.1
> WUStatusServer = http://192.168.2.1

So.. is this the CDT output from the "one server reporting"
or is this the CDT output from the client (no longer) reporting the
0x80072ee6 error?

If this was the client previously reporting the '2ee6' error, it's entirely
possible that the BITS queue is jammed up with request to download files
from an invalid URL.

I would suggest running the bitsadmin.exe utility (v2.0), with the '/list
/alluser /verbose' switches, to see if the client system has any download
jobs in the queue.

If so, purge the queue with 'bitsadmin /reset /allusers' command, and then
initiate another detection using 'wuauclt /detectnow'
