Updated Client Not Seen by WSUS Server
GeraldF <me[ at ]somewhere.com> 6/5/2007 5:07:39 AM
WSUS 3.0 on SBS Server. All working well. Recently
updated client machine from W2K to XP sp2. WSUS server
recognized OS change, but needed to rename client from
MYCOMP to MYCOMPXP. WSUS status states MYCOMP has not
been updated (since rename) MYCOMPXP not listed. Should
I:

1-Remove MYCOMP from WSUS and let it find MYCOMPXP
2-Give MYCOMPXP a different IP address
3-Rename MYCOMPXP back to MYCOMP

Thanks

Yes, remove MYCOMP, it's gone and won't be coming back, but that's not
what's interfering with MYCOMPXP.

Won't matter.

You could do that, but I doubt it will matter either.

The issue here would seem to be a "failure to communicate" on the part of
the new client system. As I understand from what you've written above, you
upgraded the OS on MYCOMP to WinXPSP2, which was recognized by the WSUS
server.

Then, you changed the name on the computer. When you renamed the computer,
you most likely created a new domain computer account. Which, in an SBS
environment, will be placed in the default container "Computers", which has
no policies linked. If you put that computer back in the appropriate OU, I
believe your problem will be solved.

I clicked on Update Services and upgraded the Windows
Update on the client (MYCOMPXP), using I guess the OLD
SUS it downloaded the UPDATE SERVICES update. After
uprade services was upgraded, MYCOMP disappeared from
WSUS and MYCOMPXP appeared. Since WSUS recognized
MYCOMPXP all the upgrades where downloaded.

Thanks for you suggestions.
