Reboot after Updates with logged on administrator
Marc Muehlfeld 5/23/2007 11:46:00 AM
Hello,

is there a way to let windows machines automatically reboot after automatic
updates, when there`s an administrator logged on?

NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers only controlls that Non-Admin-Users will
logged out. It doesn`t seem to affect Administrators.

Any idea?

Best regards
Marc

The default behaviour should be to reboot automatically after presenting a five
minute warning countdown. Of course, if the administrator is present, he or she
can postpone the reboot.

What behaviour are you seeing?

Harry.

I just get the information that the computer installed new updates and he
asks me if I want to reboot now or later.

Doesn`t matter what value I set for NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers.

This is correct.

Administrators are *administrators*, and they can do whatever they want. The
WUA presents a dialog appropriate to that permission level, which includes
two options: "Reboot Later" or "Reboot Now".

If you want to override this behavior, what you'll need to do is enable the
policy "Remove all access to use Windows Update features", which will deny
those administrators access to the WUA UI, which will, in turn, force the
reboot on them, just as if they were non-privileged users.
