redirecting
Freddie 5/17/2007 9:30:01 PM
I know if i change the host file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ it is
going to effect my browsing (lets say i type a wrong ip for www.google.com)
you would never get to google by the naming but you could find out the Ip of
google.com
can I use the same thought when on Windows DNS ,
can I forward a wrong address for Blocking website.

Hi Freddie,

If I understand your question correctly, the answer is yes.

If you configure a domain on your DNS server with IP addresses that are
incorrect, anyone using that DNS server will be unable to browse those hosts
by name. This isn't the best way to block a Web site, but it may be
sufficient for your needs. If someone wanted to defeat the block, all they
would need to do is use a different DNS server for name resolution, or (as
you said) type in the actual IP address.

thank you for your prompt replay
I am sure Getting a ISA server would solve my problems,
2 questions if I may,
1 what is a better approch to block a Web site or sites
2 how do you do that in DNS ( is a new record that needs to be added to
Forwarded Zone?
any help to get to understand and change default DNS would be AWSOME
Thanks again
Freddie
