DNS name resolution
Basha 6/23/2007 9:11:00 AM
Hi all,

We have two domain controllers dc1,dc2 in our domain.Recently we
have added another domain controller dc3 to domain, then demoted dc3.
Now the problem is (Not a serious problem) that when we launch nslookup and
type dc3 in any domain controller(dc1 or dc2) we get response as
dc3.mydomain.com where there is no host(A) record in both DNS servers. If we
try to resolve with ip address of dc3 then we didn't get any reponse.

Can any body tell how we are getting name resolution of dc3 where there is
host(A) record. If there is host(A) record of dc3 then where is it?

please give responce asap.

Thanks in advance

Confirms that record of DC3 in the zone does not exist.
If the answer is single the FQDN must exist in the properties of the zone,
in the tab Name Server.

Thanks dario,
The three domain contorllers are in three different sites (margon
hill,newport beach,hongcong) with 30 to 35 active directory integrated
primary forward lookup zones.I have checked all forward lookup zones for dc3
host(A) record,But I didn't found any record.
I have checked all name servers in name server tab of Properties of zone.
Is there any place that I can found the dc3 host(A) record.

Since you have three sites, I assume you have WINS, and therefore possibly
WINS lookup enabled on the default domain zone. (Default domain is the one
listed in the DNS suffix search list.)
