401.2 Errors

I have a SBS 2003 server which has just been updated with IE7 (following an
auto update). Our internet connection slowed to a halt and we were advised by
our ISP to remove IE7 as this could be the cause of the problems. Much as I
had my doubts, they insisted. So I removed IE7.

This made no effect, in fact a 5th restart of the ISP's router ultimately
solved the problem. I then reinstalled IE7 on the SBS 2003 server again.

Since doing all of this, our Intranet site's access as gone a bit haywire.
Before all of this, all clients had IE LAN Settings as Proxy: sbs 2003 server
name, Port: 8080, "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" TICKED, and in
the Advanced options "use the same proxy for all" was TICKED and the
exceptions listed were 192.168* (which is our LAN range).

But with these settings nobody could get on the Intranet
(http://companyweb). We all just got Page cannot be displayed. We CAN however
get the site to launch if we UNTICK the option "bypass proxy server for local
addresses". However, this only seems to work for installations of IE6
upwards. Those that still fail receive this message:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the
credentials that you supplied because your Web browser is sending a
WWW-Authenticate header field that the Web server is not configured to
accept.

HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to server configuration.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Question 1 is why has this config changed, and why do we have to have the
"bypass proxy server" setting UNTICKED? Surely it should be ticked?

Question 2 is how can I get my Windows 2000 clients to be able to see the
Intranet?

Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

PS I posted this on the IIS Forum and was advised that this could point to a
DNS or ISA server issue, hence the posting on this Forum.

Thanks.

Make sure all clients and the SBS server use the SBS only for DNS.
When you use nslookup, does nslookup companyweb return the internal IP
(only) of SBS?

Here are a couple of articles for Multihomed DCs that have been very popular
for clients this week:
