the need for public IP addresses
Lou 6/22/2007 6:26:01 PM
I have hit stupid mode. I have have three seperate pc's on one domain. Each
server has a different role.

Server 1 = websites frontpage
server 2 = sharepoint
server 3 = commerce server
server 4 = exchange2003
server 5= dns

each server is serving iis6 websites....ie, website or sharepoint or
Outlookweb access etc.

Here is my stupid question. Can they all share one gateway? and therefore
one public IP address with different internal private ip addresses?

Im stuck.

Not for incoming connections on the same port to different server IPs.
You can have one server setup as a Default redirect server. On the redirect
server, set up web sites on port 80, using host headers that redirect to the
same web site name, on a different port. Then on the router forward that
port to the IP of the server with the actual web site. There is almost no
limit on the number of websites on a single IP and port if every website has
a host header.

Example, on the redirect server create a website for exchange.mydomain.com
on port 80, then on that web sites Home directory tab, select redirection to
a URL, and enter http://exchange.mydomain.com:81/exchange . Then on the
router, forward incoming connections on port 81 to the Exchange server IP,
and set the Exchange website to listen on port 81.
