Several local zones
mich <mlandin[ at ]gmail.com> 5/25/2007 9:20:47 AM
Hello,

I have a windows server running AD & DNS on my LAN (192.168.1.0/24) -
and everything works fine.
Recently I have setup a VPN connection to another company so we can
share each other LAN resources.. Their LAN is on 192.168.2.0/24 - and
on IP level everything works fine.

Now, I would like to add another zone to my DNS server for their LAN
(let's call it companyabc.com) however, my DNS server should look up
records in their DNS server - is this possible?

Thanks,

Mike

If you are running WS03 DNS servers you can just set up a conditional
forwarder for companyb.com to their DNS servers local 192.168.2.x address.
There are other solutions if this isn't suitable, but this is the easiest.

Jeremy is correct. You can conditionally forward to their DNS server for
THEIR Zone ONLY.

You can hold a Secondary (copy) of their DNS zone even with Win2000,
IF they agree and set their master DNS server(s) to allow this for you.

You can also use a Stub Zone if you have Win2003, which has some very
slight diffrences in effect from using Conditional Forwarding.
