Where to put our ISP's DNS info?
TRock 5/10/2007 12:40:00 PM
Scenario: Windows 2003 R2 SP1 DC running DNS for our local clients.

Issue: I have been given two IP addresses from my ISP to use for external
DNS. Where should I enter these? As forwarders on my 2003 DNS server? Or
should this be entered into the firewall/gateway/router?

Thanks,

Use them as forwards on the AD DNS server.

Usually on the forwarder tab of your DNS Servers (but certainly
NO WHERE else internally.)

You are not required to use them there and might establish your
own forwarder (in your firewall/DMZ area) more securely.

If you don't use these, then record them somewhere you can find
in case they are ever needed.
