DHCP losing confi on one scope
MandG <gscanga[ at ]gmail.com> 6/7/2007 5:32:28 PM
I know this is a DNS forum but I also know that you guys are smart. My
question is with DHCP. I have several scopes defined but am suffering
from a bizarre issue with only one of the scopes- at least 4 times in
the past month this scope has lost its configuration. Thus, users et
an ip address but no other settings such as dns or a default gateway.
I simply go back in and add the configuration to the scope but I want
to know what's causing this?

Does it makes sense to suspect that the switch in the idf closet could
be canceling out my DHCP servers configuration? As this only happens
to this same scope.

Even if there were a rouge DHCP server, it would not change or delete set
scope options. But it would show up in the ipconfig /all as the DHCP server.
Possibly a virus or a malicious user with Admin rights?
I've never heard of a virus that does this, but these days you can never
tell what some malicious hackers will try.

There are group Policies that will override these DHCP options on the
clients, but I still don't think it would change the set options on the
scope itself.
Computer Configuration
-Administrative templates
-Network
-DNS Client

Thanks for the tip about the gpo, Kevin. Just for the heck of it, I've
deleted the scope and re-configured it again. We'll see if it holds
up.

Thanks!
