Are you running scavenging on your dns server?
Dynamic DNS is where machines register their own host records, if you start removing machines and not manually cleaning them up you can really start to pollute your zone. In comes scavenging, this is a mechanism that if the records aren't reregistered in a 14 day window (14 days is the default but this can be modified) then the dns server will prune them.
If you want to learn more about scavenging just do an internet search on it.
