Cannot see web site for OUR server domain
Flick Olmsford 4/18/2007 9:12:00 PM
I have never gone into DNS before to modify / edit things.

We have a web site, say, OurWebSite.com. Our server is called
OurWebSite.com, but we do not host the web site. It is hosted by a large
firm offsite.

We can see ALL other web sites but our own OurWebSite.com from our
workstations.

How can I fix this?

You need to add a record named www. to the internal ourwebsite.com zone,
giving the IP address of the web site. Since the ourwebsite.com domain name
must resolve to the IP address of domain controllers for group policies to
work, internal users must use www.ourwebsite.com to access the web site. You
can however configure IIS on your domain controllers to redirect
http://ourwebsite.com to http://www.ourwebsite.com.

I tried that but no luck. What type of record do I add - host, alias, MX,
domain? I just add www (no period) and the dialog box filled in the rest of
the site for me. I used a host record.

It just worked! I had accidently added two records, one with the wrong IP
number.

Thanks!!!

I was just going to add that you may need to clear the client DNS cache by
running ipconfig /flushdns in a command prompt.
