I don't believe I've heard of a rule like this. You will need to make sure there is an A record in the proper domain for the name this server will answer to, and that name and IP be registered with your registrar and listed at the ccTLD (co.uk) servers as a name server.

I'm not sure a wildcard record will work for the Glue record, and I know that even though a lot of people use them, they usually end up causing more trouble than they are worth.
