Yes. The name of the record must be n the ZONE of the same name, but the VALUE or DATA can point to a DNS name in any zone/domain.

This is entirely commmon for ISPs who handle email for customers:
smtp.company.com -->>> mail.isp.com

Yes, but generally you should use the MX records directly to an A record (MX is already a form of alias although few people ever mention that) if possible.
