The Windows DNS really needs to BE the DNS Server for the ENTIRE "contoso.com" zone OR you need to setup and MANUALLY maintain a "Shadow DNS" (aka Split DNS setup) where you manually make all external changes to both the extenral (UNIX) version of the zone and to the Internal (Windows) version.

Or build you Windows as a CHILD or DIFFERENT domain name.
