Setting up DNS for a second website
RSteph 5/11/2007 12:32:03 PM
I'll preface this by saying upfront my knowledge/experiene with web hosting
topics is limited.

I've got a Windows Server 2003 server with IIS6.0, I've got a website hosted
off of it already, and I'm trying to host a second website from it. I've got
1 public IP addess, and I've already got my host header set up for it, I set
the new site up on port 80, and changed the old site to port 81.

I'm trying to get the Host (A) record set up for the new site, and I'm at a
loss. I've found some sites the explain doing it for a site, but it doesn't
say anything about a second site, so I'm not sure if I do things exactly the
same, or if I have to change things. Can I place a Host (A) record in the
forward lookup zone for the primary site (which is also our domain for our
Active Directory) or do I need to make a new lookup zone? And if so, can I
use the same internal IP address as the first one or not? Also, I would like
to set up some e-mail addresses with a name[ at ]site2.com address... how would I
go about setting this up?

If anyone could help me with how to do this, or point me to a website with
some good directions/guides for this, or even a book I can go out a buy that
spells things out for me. I've tried to look on Microsofts site but most of
the stuff either isn't clear enough for me, or it's links from other message
boards and they wind up dead links. Thank you in advance for any help that
anyone can offer, I'm coming to a loss on this.

Nevermind I got it working... Just had to play with the settings a little.
