Counting characters in word
Word 2003 had a very useful menu for counting characters. All you needed to
do was to select the text whose characters you wanted to count (with or
without spaces) and to click the "count" button. I've recently changed to
Word 2007 and unfortunately, that menu is nowhere to be found. Instead, every
time I need to count the characters of one word, I must click a button and I

Sub: Modification not allowed
I had my file saved yesterday but when i open it the following day, i cannot
edit it anymore and i saw modification not allowed as this file is locked.

How do I restore the original margin settings?
I was playing around and I think I set the margin setting all wonky. Could

Make header not same as previous
We used to be able to do this in Word 2000, now I am in Word 2007 and I
cannot find how to make the header not same as previous. I am in section 2,
the little tab says I am, but I see no way to change the little tab that
says "same as previous" so when I delete the header, it deletes it for the
whole document. How do I change it for just Section 2? Thank you very

Automatic table of contents
When I try to add a chapter heading to level 1 on the automated TOC, it keeps
moving the text to the next page. I need ithe chapter name to be on on odd
page. This is very frustrating! Any ideas?...

table corrupted
I keep getting this error message: A table in this document has become
corrupted. To recover the contents of the table: select the table and choose
Convert Table To Text from the table menu.
I click OK and Word says it has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Footer on last page
I use these field codes to put a footer on my last page:
{ IF { PAGE \* MEGEFORMAT} = "{ = {NUMPAGES \* MERGEFORMAT} " "

The problem is, that this does not work, if the page number of the last page

Can't update styles
hello,
i'd like to delete all of the heading styles in a document and replace them
with the styles that are in my normal.dot file.
i can't figure out how to delete the styles that i don't want.
somehow my styles got changed in some documents from what they are in the
word 2003 normal.dot file
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Styles in Word2007_Vista
Hi-
Could someone help me create a style for the Table Title. I successfully
created a style for Figure titles by going into numbering and typing "Figure"
in front of the auto number feature.
However, I cannot repeat the process for an auto numbering Table title.
Does anyone know why?

Word 2007 flash.ocx Error Msg
I have Office Word 2007 and have used it for about a month now. Today I
received an error message that said:
"This program requires a missing Windows component.. Flash.ocx". It
also had an option to click on; "Check for Solutions Online". This
resulted in nothing being available to fix this.

How do I change text from vertical to horizontal in a text box.

merging templates
When I had office 2003 installed I had made extensive changes to the
normal.dot template. I've now installed office 2007 on all of my systems and
the normal.dotm does NOT contain my changes. If I open a 2003 doc file I see
all of my customizations. In 2003 it was easy to merge the inuse template
with the normal.dot template but I cannot determine how to do this in 2007.

Template used when creating a new document in office 2007
On my WinXP Pro system I've made a few changes to my normal.dotm template
and if I'm in word and click on the Office button and then New my changed
normal.dotm file is used (this is what I expected). If I'm in windows
explorer and I right-click, select New, then select "Microsoft Office Word

how do i reduce size of documents opened using paint
I saved my documents (resumes,licenses etc) on my computer and when i try to
retreive them it opens with paint. its always zoomed out and i need to know

decidedly simple question
Using XP and I'm admitting to a brain fart. Word has decided that it
won't convert "th" or "st" into superscript and I couldn't find the
box that should be selected to correct the problem. Word does convert
:) into a happy face. So all is not lost - but I'm perplexed. Why
would it convert one, but not the other and where is the option found?

How do I put two pages side by side on a wide screen

I can do this with Acrobat by selecting "2-up" from their

Help with AUTO TEXT
I have been able to get the auto text logo into the Quick access tool bar.
When I click on the logo, it opens a box with the text that I have inserted
in location. But, the text is in the upper part of the location, it is not
in the white portion of the box. When I click on the text, the box
dissapears, and the cursor in my message moves down 1 line, but the text

outside printable area
Hi
I have designed one page to show 3 raffle tickets, including stubs and
borders. I use mail merge to get number incriments. Owing to the margin
moved as much as possible, i get the message "outside printable area" when I
go to print. I do not want to alter the master copy as this upsets all the

file name & path
Good morning,
In Word 03 I was able to have the file name & path inserted as a
header/footer in any document. In Word 2007 only file name appears to be
available in the same option area. Has the path insertion bit been dropped
or is it still available in a different menu area? Many thanks any info.
