automating Chapter numbers
I am using Word 2002 in Windows XP and am in the process of preparing a new
edition of a book manuscript. In doing this I am changing the order of
several chapters. In the earlier Word manuscript, the chapters were
manually numbered (I title, II title2, etc.).
Is there a way to automate the chapter numbers - the way caption and figure
numbers are automated - so that they renumber them...

Excel, Word 2003, 2007, Vista!!!
I have a new laptop with Vista (Ugh!!) and have imported an Excel program
(names and address) that needs to be updated and added to. I can edit any of
it but it won't add new lines to put in the new addresses. Am I missing
something here. Never had this problem in the old program....

Click Once in TOC
I am trying to create a TOC in the beginning of a long form that only
requires the user to click once instead of control-click. I would also like
to remove the shading so the whole thing looks a bit more professional. Any

Using spike only moves text
Using XP and Office 2003
Trying to use the Spike to copy non-adjacent material from one document to
another. However, CTRL + F3 erases the text from my original document. Is
there any way to copy rather than move text using the Spike?

Form Field Date Comparison
In Word 2007, I have a form with fields. I have the user enter a date in
Field1 and then want Field2 to do certain things based on whether the date
in Field1 is greater than a static date. I read a great example from
Graham Mayor that works, but when I try to change the date format from the
example, it won't work.
Works:
Format Field1 as a yyyyMMdd date
Field2: =If (Field1 \@ "yyyyMMdd"...

How do I create s creen tip without a hyperlink?
In my doc I've got some initials that I would like to show a screen tip for
to give the description when the user hovers the mouse over it. The only way
I've seen to do this is to create a hyperlink and put the screen tip on that.
I do not need the hyperlink though.
Does anyone know how to craete a screen tip without using a hyperlink?

Office 07 Interactive Guides
I have been successfully using the Office 2007 Interactive Guides and have
just sent the Word guide link to a friend. She is on a Vista based machine
and is trying the learn Word 2007.
When she follows the link I sent her, she gets as far as being able to click
the START THE GUIDE button, but then nothing happens.

Need Word 2000 Template that will act like a spread sheet
Can anyone point me in the direction of where I could download or make my
own template that would
mimic a spread sheet. That is being able to tab through cells. It's for a

Word 2007 indents (XP)
The paragraph dialog box will retain some but not all of my changes when
making a new style or modifying a built-in one, such as TOC 2. I started a
new document to test this, specifying 1 inch margins in page layout and TOC 2
beginning at .35 and a line spacing of 1.5. When I close the DB and then go
back to it to see the changes, the left margin is a minus number (!) and line

Word 2007 to HTML
I want to post an ad on Craigslist, which accepts a limited set of
html tags. The exact list that is supported can be found here:

how to save a microsoft office 2007 file
I can't find the 'save as' option in words 2007. All I see is 'save'. It
doesn't give me the option of saving my file where I want it to be saved. It

Formatting trouble
Please help me if you can. I have windows vista and word for windows
2000, or at least I think I do.
When I type a word document in 12 font, with the dictionary set to U.K
it stays fine and formats how I want it to. It puts in numbers for
points and keeps the subscript and superscript numbers how they should

.doc files not asssociated with Word 2007
After I upgraded to Office 2007, when I try to open a .doc file by clicking
that particular file, or from an email attachment, it is not recognized as a
word file. When I click on the file directly, it brings up a window to
assign a program for that file and the only option it lists is notepad. When

Word 2007 original icon has been modified
Hi everybody,
for some reason my shortcut Word icon has gone and has been replaced with
the Windows generic icon. I tried to suppress this shortcut and recreate
another one, to no avail.
I also tried to right click on this shortcut > Properties but the change
icon button is greyed.

Character spacing keeps adjusting itself
I am trying to type a book manuscript in Word 2007. I want a ragged right
margin, but Word keeps adjusting the spacing of the text as I type it so each
line is even. This gives me uneven spacing on each line and a (mostly) smooth
right margin. I have the left justifaction set, but it does not effect the
character spacing. How do I turn this off?...

Right-aligning a partial line of text?
Corel WordPerfect has a great code defined as 'FLUSH RIGHT' which allows
users to type text left-aligned, but then, at any point, force the rest of
the text to be right-aligned. The code was inserted with a function key,
just as you might enter a tab. Pressing the function key twice, added
dot-leaders between the left-aligned text and the right-aligned text. Is

Displaying graphics
I used to be able to see the details of imported bmp files but now I get
only an outline. I must have changed a setting somewhere along the line but
I can't see what. I'm sure it's a very easy to resolve. Please advise?

Problems with borders
I am having problems trying to use borders in a newsletter.
First, I was asked to use one of the borders in "Art" (Christmas trees) for
one page. If I click on "this section," every page in the section has the
border. I do not see an option for just "this page." I only get options

How do I make labels in Word 2002
I am running Microsoft 2002 Student Edition with the VISTA OS. I can't seem
to create labels. I go to Tools, Labels, choose the Avery 8160, and new
document and the screen comes up blank. I have created labesl with the Word
2000 running on XP with no problems. Any suggestions to help me or is it a
