Index entry dialog freezes
If I start typing into the "main entry" or "subentry" field of the Mark Index
Entry dialog box, the characters don't appear and the cursor disappears, both
in the dialog box and the Word application. Effectively the application
'freezes' and has to be stopped using the Task Manager.
This happens even with a simple trial file. It didn't happen on December 19,
2008 but happens consistentl...

Form created in 2007 to be used in word 2003
Hi,
I used activex controls in 2007 to create a form in word, i added editing
permissions to allow only editing of the form items, it worked well in 2007.
Now when i had someone in 2003 open the document the whole document was
locked even forms elements, what am i doing wrong or what am i missing for
the activex controls to work in older versions of word....

Reference tab greyed out
My reference tab is gbreyed out except for the citation button. Why is this
and what can I do? I did a clean reinstall of Office and made sure that I
installed all parts. The contents of the reference tab is still greyed out.
Please help!! I have a paper due.

Autocorrect puts space in word
I used the symbol ` in autocorrect to insert 5 underscore in my document.
Sometimes it works fine but other times it looks like this ___ __. It puts a
space inbetween underscores. Anybody know the answer to this problem. Also
some other entries will not come up at all when I add them and then try to
use....

AutoShapeType bug in Word 2007?
I'm trying to write a macro to change the shape of the currently selected
picture to a rectangle with two diagonally opposing rounded corners
(msoShapeRound2DiagRectangle), but it just doesn't seem to work. I've coded
to check that the picture is converted to a Shape if it's an InlineShape and
the conversion code I'm using is this:

Has anyone ever had their Microsoft Office just lock up on them?
My microsoft office has locked up. I'm unable to access protect documents in
order to unprotect it. The security settings all state allow and appear to be
OK. Has anyone ever seen this happen? Any suggestions?...

Word 2003
HELP!!!!!!!!!
I cannot open any DOC files anywhere on my computer unless the WORD
Programme is running first.
So double clicking on a doc file is usless.
I have to open WORD then go looking for the file and then open it.
Have reinstalled WORD 2003
Have tried removing updated patches to try and get back to original working.
Have renamed files

No normal.dot* doc... how do I make one?
Ever since I installed MS 2007/Excel 2007, neither of them will work - they
won't open existing files, and they won't open on their own (even with the
winword /a command). I think I've narrowed the problem down to the fact that
there's no normal.dotx doc (or ANY file named "normal", for that matter). Is
there a way to create one?...

OLE problem? Cannot insert table into excel cont...
Okay, so I am continuing from a previous thread as I am still still trying to
figure out this issue. The flow of this thread is in reverse order. Posts at
the bottom are from other personnel from a previous post but relevant to this

All autotext choices now gone...help
I have to review several documents a day. Each is saved in Word (by different
director) and is saved onto a network shared drive. I open up the file,
review it, and at the bottom of the page...but NOT in the footer area... they
want me to enter in the filename/path and inital. For the first few months I
was able to simply go into Insert>autotext>header/footer>and then select

Form Fields in Word 2007
I am attempting to help train a colleague on how to create a form using Word
2007. We have enabled the "Show Developer Tab in the Ribbon" toggle,
however, when we get into the Developer Toolbar and click "Design Mode" we do
not have access to "Rich Text", "Text", "Drop Down List", etc. They are all
greyed out. I do not have this problem on my computer, and wondering what

Directory Service Currently Unavailable
I have exactly one file that suddenly will not print. Everytime I try I get
the message that the Directory Service is Currently Unavailable. All other
files still print normally. Can anyone tell me how to correct this one file?
It's a manual that I'm working on and I need to get it done....

Word 2007: XML error message?
Hi folks! I'm trying to open a document and am getting the following error:
"The Office Open XML file Personnel Information Sheet cannot be opened
because there are problems with the contents."
Details: unspecified error
Location: Part: /word/document.xml, Line 2, Column: 4008
It's a Personnel Information sheet with various checkboxes and so on. I've

speech recognition command list
Hi All,
I am using windows xp home sr3 and office 2003. I am starting to use the
speech recognition feature. Somewhere is there a list of voice and dication
commands that someone can direct me to? I tried using help but wasn't

word2007 moving bug?
if I right click on word 2007 taskbar button and select move, then without
moving the mouse, left click and drag, word does not move.
All other applications move this way.
To move word, an extra left click is needed. Why?

Configuration/Install/"Office not installed for current user" prob
I have found why this happens. Certain file cleaners (in my case it was
System Mechanic's "junk file" cleaner) DELETE the file OPA11.BAK. This file
is needed by Office for its activation/validation process, which is checked
everytime any Office product is run...at least in Office 2003 and 2007.
Then if you run a registry cleaner afterwards, the corresponding key in

Word 2003 keeps trying to "install components"
I have been using Office 2003 for years. Since a recent update I am getting
a very strange "error". Even though I have NOT chosen to install anything,
when Word first opens, a Windows installer window opens and then a progress
box that indicates it is "installing components". It does NOT say what it is

Help - Vertical Scroll changes to Horizontal (Sideways scroll)

Footnote Not Appearing at Bottom of Page
I have tried all the obvious fixes - nothing works: The footnote text and
references were normal - I deleted and re-added all the footnotes (user
copied footnotes from a wordperfect document). I selected the entire
document and converted all footnotes to endnotes - you can see them appear at

Configuring Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 - every time...
Hi;
I have both Word 2003 & Word 2007 installed on my system. I have to do
this because I have to test our AddIn against both versions.
Whenever I run Word 2003, then run Word 2007 again, I get "Configuring
Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007..." for about 2 minutes as it does
something.
How can I avoid this?

How do you change the backspace function in Word 2007
I used to be able to highlight text and press "backspace" and the highlighted
text would be erased. Now when I highlight text and press "backspace," the
cursor just goes to the beginning of the highlighted text.
