Split DB BE question
If you have a DB split using a FE and a BE can you put a password on the BE
db? Or will that cause the FE /BE not to work? Basically I don't want a user
to be able to open the BE db and see the tables, values ect. The FE is
already an mde application.
Thanks in advance.

SQL Server or Terminal Server?
Hi,
I've recently deployed an Access 2000 database over a 100 Mbps WAN. When you
try to connect to the back-end from a computer in the same office (same
building) everything works fine. When you try to open the back-end from other
building the connection is painfully slow, making it unfeasable. I've heard
plenty times about MSDE/SQL Server or installing Cytrix Metaframe/Windows

Hi All,
I'm doing IT for a small office using Microsoft Access and a
distributied database.
A winXP fileserver is storing the BE of the database on a mirror raid

Intermittantlly the users are missing data from their view of the
database and are told by the 'developer' of the database that they

newbie help - refresh forms
Hello. I'm sure that this is a common issue, but I was unable to find a
good solution. I have a multiuser (~3 users at most) database which has
a Welcome form. This form has comboboxes to Add and Edit records. If
one user Adds a record, and another has already selected the Edit
Combobox, the 2nd users Edit Combobox will not refresh on click to show
the new record. I figured I could Requery On...

Changing path between FE and Password protected BE
Hello,
I have a database that is split into FE and BE.
The BE is protected with Password which the FE is providing when connected,
using VB code.
the users' path to the back end may differ from the path I used when setting
up the front-end/back-end link. How can I let the user to change the path,
without giving him the password to the BE?
thanks, AviA

Read-only users
I don't have very detailed needs for user security, but occasionally want a
particular user to be able to look at the database only, with no mod
capability. Made a security group with read-only priveleges . . .problem is,
one lookup drop-down does a Record Save before loading and displaying the
selected record. The read-only users get an error on that function, and can't
continue. Which...

good technical ref for mutliuser?
What do people consider to be good manuals on setting up and

references, but if one exists, I'd like a paper reference.
Thanks.

Characteristics of ADE
I have a general question regarding Access ADE files. I've recently adopted
some Access applications and have questions regarding multi-user behavior.
I've noticed on the MDE application that multiple users can be in the same
file located on the file-server at the same time and no read-only errors
occur(on opening). I've recently created an Access ADP and moved the same
access table...

how can i get my front ends to talk to each other?
I need front ends to be able to pass information between each other. The
front ends can obviously save information into a common BE but each FE needs
to know that there's information waiting for it. So I need a way to trigger
an event on an application on another machine.
I've come up with 2 options so far:
i) a hidden timer form checks a table for messages adressed to itself. I

we have an access 2002 db shared over a wan not split
Some users have been upgraded to windows xp/ avccess 2003. The db
started crahing hard; 5 times last week. We had to step through all the
error messages for each table and copy and paste the data into the
backup. We banned 2003 users until everyone is upgaded. It seems to have
settled down knock on wood. Would a split db help with the different
versions not crashing?
Thanks.

delete rights to folder means people can delete mdb too??
I'm a big believer in Access and have been using it mostly with the powerful
built-in GUI tools and wizards for years, recently getting more into VBA.
I've built an Access 2000 front end back end lease tracking application that
has only a handful of users. Our IT dept created a folder specifically for
the back end database file (front end on each person's PC), and at first they
did not give ...

I have developed an Access application to administer competitons for a

I have done such apps in the past.
However, thie issue here is that the whole thing isn't in a single
