I have taken over the I.T. support for a new client of mine. They have Outlook 2000 Premium which is patched to SR-1. 2000 Premium was installed via CD and then SR-1 was downloaded and installed.
They currently use Internet Mail and I am in the process of moving them to Exchange. However, when I try to reconfigure mail support in Outlook, it prompts me for the Outlook 2000 Premium SR-1 installation data1.msi. The problem is that I cannot find where the previous consultant had this file extracted on the network, and the only downloadable version of SR-1 that I have found has a data1.msp, not an MSI. Does anyone know how I can download SR-1 that will provide me with a data1.msi? At this point, the only way I have been able to resolve this is to uninstall the product, then reinstall 2000 premium and then the SR-1 that I downloaded. I am probably missing something stupid here. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Hi Matthew,
I'm not clear if you're being asked for the CD for MS Office 2000 or for a CD for MS Outlook 2000. If Outlook was installed separately, it should appear in add/remove programs in the windows control panel.
Data1.msi was the generic name for the main .MSI file on CD#1 of each Office 2000 product. Although the name is the same, the contents are not. The CD named in the bottom of the dialog where it asks for the CD would be the one it's usually looking for, and it may be the original, pre SR1 product CD.

I am being asked for the Office SR-1 Data1.msi, not Outlook. Additionally, it is not looking for the pre SR-1 CD, as I have tried that and it does not work. Also, it says "Office 2000 Premium SR-1", not "Office 2000 Premium". The original CD does not work.

Peter,
This really doesn't answer my question. It is a link that I already have and I mentioned that I downloaded the Sr-1a full version that this link points to. It extracts a data1.MSP, not the .MSI that the program is looking for. Do you know where I can download the package with the SR-1a MSI?

You posted the following
[Quoted Text] >prompts me for the Outlook 2000 Premium SR-1 installation data1.msi.
Bob also answered you according to your posting as per above and now you say
>I am being asked for the Office SR-1 Data1.msi, not Outlook.
Was Outlook installed separately apart from Office at the time of installation?

Guys, I'm very sorry. I realize that my initial post is very confusing. Let me clarify. Outlook was installed as part of Office, not separately. It is prompting me for the location of the Office 2000 Premium SR-1A data1.msi.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Matthew,
The .MSI file is only available on the original product CD, it's not available from Microsoft as a download and MS no longer has Office 2000 CD versions available. Office 2000 was released then re-released twice
Office 2000 (original) Office 2000 with SR1 Service Release Office 2000 with SR2 Service Release
The updates were also provided in .MSP patch versions both in download and CD patch disks. Once the Service Release (SR1a) was installed then the way the Installer saw things you it would report that you had Office 2000 SR1, but 'knew' that your CD would be the original one. That SR1 is appearing in the 'Use CD from' dialog box tends to indicate that the SR1 update was applied at some point.
Be sure that the CD you have is for the same Edition (Premium) that is listed in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel and that it's CD#1 (Premium is a 4 CD set).
One of the most common places where you'd run into the CD not being accepted is that the original installation is damaged (which, unfortunately, requires the CD to repair). If you cannot complete a Repair/Reinstall of Office 2000 from the Microsoft Office 2000 listing in Add/Remove Programs then you may need to use the MS Installer cleanup utility, then restart the PC then reinstall and repatch, but that can vary based on the exact error message you receive when trying to do the repair. Let us know what that is please.
