If you didn't save it there's nothing to recover.

What is Desperate! has "Allow Fast Saves" selected in the Options dialog box,
Save tab (Word 2003)? Is there still nothing to recover?

If the file was never saved at least once NONE of the Save Options mean
anything... and none of them automatically save your work for you, either.

I know it is no comfort, Desperate, but in my computer lab I have a big
coloured sign that says (in lovely WordArt):

There are two kinds of people who use computers:
Those who have lost important data files, and
Those who will lose important data files.

The big point is - learn from it, and never, ever make the same mistake
again.

I tell my students, when they commence a document or file - regardless of
the software - to immediately save it with the required filename. Then,
every paragraph, item, object or whatever the document comprises, to just
hit the "Save" button.

Get the habit: Save early - save often. And read Suzanne's link about
auto-saves.

Good luck on resurrecting or re-doing your paper.

Paddy
