Norton WinDoctor has found a missing file in my newly installed Office 2007 Suite: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\msoxmled.exe" cannot access a necessary file, "msvcr80.dll." I have tried the Office Self-Repair option, but I still get this message. Should I reinstall Office?

No need to re-install Office. Uninstall the Norton Win Doctor. This error is caused by Norton and not by your Office install

It just seems like Norton keeps causing more and more problems. I used to like their products but I wouldn't allow Norton on any computers in my home.

Thanks guys. I passed on Vista because of some of the problems I heard it had with Norton. But maybe I should rethink Norton and not Microsoft.

I have Vista and I don't have any problems. I'm not normally an early adopter but it was time for a new computer. Vista has been fine. The only issue I have is that Adobe hasn't released their Vista/Office 2007 patch for Acrobat yet. I knew that before I bought the computer though.

For what it's worth, my list of malware:
Trojans, Viruses, Worms, Spyware, Adware, Keyloggers, anything from Norton/Symantic, anything from McAfee, anything from Zone Alarm, anything from AOL.
As always, YMMV, these are all things I've had personal bad experiences with on my computer or on others.
NOTES:
In defense of Norton/Symantec, their corporate products seem to work fairly well, it's their personal products that have given me negative experiences.
In defense of Zone Alarm, although they've been famous for conflicting with other software as far back as version 2.0, they have also been VERY quick to acknowledge problems and issue fixes.

Up to the AOL thing, I agree. And that's only because I have to communicate with several people who still use AOHell, including my mom.

Many people use AOL successfully but I recall one new version a few years back that completely destroyed one guy's harddrive requiring reformatting and reinstalling everything. At that point I figured out if they did it once, they might do it again.....

Joann, I'll be setting up a new system shortly, and am curious about the vendors you mentioned.
* Zone Alarm -- I user their free firewall. I recently upgraded to v6.xx, and now it reminds me periodically to upgrade or buy the pro version. Plus their free version now comes with Anti-Virus, which I don't want. Other than that, I've never had a problem. QUESTION -- I'm interested to know of what conflicts/problems it causes with a Win XP Home & Office XP installation.
* McAfee -- I agree; although I rather like their old Visual Trace (tracert) program, and haven't noticed conflicts. Have you?
* Norton/Symantec -- OMG! It's like a train wreck waiting to happen. But I have used Norton Utilities 2002, Partition Magic, Power Quest Drive Image (now a Symantec product?), Ghost, and Raxco Perfect Disk (now a Symantec product?). I never use their AV tools. QUESTION -- if I run these products on the new system ONLY FROM THE CD, will that prevent the conflicts?
* AOL -- It's like a train wreck that's already happened. It's infested nearly every application CD I have. I have to dig dig dig into files and folders and the registry to get it out. QUESTION -- do you know of any tools that can scrub it out of my system after it installs itself?
Thank you. I'm hoping to build a nice, clean, tight system and keep it that way! :-)

Scroll down and see how many releases include fixes for compatibility issues.
In ZA's favor, they're quick to issue fixes but I'd rather have a firewall that doesn't have conflicts.

Ya know, I kept looking at that and thinking "When the heck did I post that?" Since it says May 12th, I'm thinking, "My gawd! I'm losing it. That was just a bit over a month ago and I have absolutely no memory of that post!" So I turned to my good friend, Google.com.
Well, guess what? I'm not losing my mind (at least not on this subject). I didn't post that. I replied to XS11E and that part was HIS comment, not mine. Yes, I agree with him but ...
And who told you that Perfect Disk is now owned by Symantec? http://www.raxco.com/
