Importing Accounts and Contacts from Outlook
Colin Foster 6/21/2007 5:11:00 PM
Like many others, I'm sure, I've just taken the plunge to upgrade "standard"
Outlook 2007 to include BCM
I want to be able to import my Outlook Contacts both into Accounts (for the
"top level" companies) and into Business Contacts for the individual contacts.
So far, I've been able to import my Outlook Contacts into Business Contacts,
but I can't seem to be able to import anything into Accounts.
I'm sure that I was able to do this in th e2003 version that I had a play
with.
Any suggestions?
Regards
Colin Foster

Instead of importing I would recommend that you just open the navigation pane
and selectively drag and drop from your Outlook Contacts list over into
either your BCM Business Contacts folder or the BCM Accounts folder.

Surely there must be a better way than that... I've relatively few contacts
(around 600) & perhaps 60 - 70 Accounts... that's going to take a while.

You can select all Outlook contacts at one time and drag them to BCM and
hold down the CTRL key.

I should have stated that you can highlight a bunch of contacts at once
before you drag and drop. It took me less than 5 minutes to do 700 contacts.

Tried that, but it ignored the Company Name & brought in th eContact's name
as 'though it was the company!

Looks like I'm faced with exporting to Excel & then importing... can't
believe that it's not straightforward

I just dragged a contact from Outlook 2007 to BCM and it went over with no
problem. The full name and company transferred

Hmm.... I'll try it again, then, on Monday.
I'm sure that in the 2003 incarnation, you could choose on whether to import
into Accounts or Business Contacts... wonder why they changed it?
