Have you thought about the fact that the pre-installed trial may have been activated more than 60 days ago? The trial is only for 60 days....

What I am saying is that the trial may have been activated more than 60 days BEFORE you bought the machine....

Got it - but I bought it boxed, new, straight from the store. If, however, your scenatio is true - what are my options?

Unfortunately I don't really know - the only thing you could try is to uninstall, remove EVERY trace of Office 2007 from the registry, download a new copy with new key and install and activate.

I am afraid your scenario may right - the whole thing may going back to the store for a new box or staying with my old box and something I know that works without wasting a lot more of my time. Gordon, thanks for your help!

Well unless you really need Outlook, might I suggest a look at version 2.2 of Open Office? www.openoffice.org - it's free and is MS Office compatible.

Great, so if I understand you correctly, it will work on Vista and be compatible with my XP Office 2003 files?

Yes. The only problem you might have is if you use complicated formatting in Word documents and macros in Excel...otherwise you won't notice a lot of difference...

"C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\ASST\Assistant.msi is on a network resource that is unavailable" is an error message I get when I try to remove Office Trial. Then I get " The (above path) cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package "assistantsetup.msi in a folder from which you can install the product office 2003 trial assistant."
I serched for this file or folder in windows on the machine and it could not be found. I have a brand new Vaio with windows XP. How can I remove this program so Office Small Business Edition 2006 can accept it's key code? Or is there another way to get it to accept the key code? Thanks. -- Thanks, JG

Start a new thread - this is a completely different problem to the one under discussion....

Hi Joe,
You shouldn't need a product key for Office 2007 except to install it. Activation is a separate process after installation. You may want to search for the (probably hidden) file file opa12.dat and recycle it then try the activation process again in the Office 2007 trial. If it was a case of it being expired then the alternate scenarios that Gordon mentioned could be needed.

Hi Bob,
Office 2007 came pre-installed but every time I go to use an application such as Word it asks for the product key, which has never worked - one on the machine or new one.
