MSOffice Pre-Installed
Don 12/20/2008 6:27:01 PM
My new HP had Office 2007 pre-installed ready to be activated with an
"Activation Assistant". I installed Office 2007 from a CD I purchased
separately. Is this pre-installed product taking up significant disk space?
How I get rid of it without interfering with the installed product?

Ideally you should have uninstalled it first. Did you look at the control
panel to see if you can tell which is the one you paid for?

Thank you. What I installed was my copy of Office XP Pro that had been
running on my old computer plus a new copy of the Office Standard 2007
Upgrade. I am running Vista, and as you suggested, I checked Programs and
Features in the Control Panel. Other than Office Accounting which I
downloaded separately, the Office programs showing are:
-Activation Assistant for the 2007 MS Office suites, 14MB
-MS Office Home and Student 2007, 304MB
-MS Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007, No size shown
-MS OfficeSmall Buisiness Connectivity Components, 158 KB
-MS Office Standard 2007, 1.1.GB
-MS Office XP Media Content, 605 MB
-MS Office XP Pro, No size shown
The Activation Assistant does not indicate which version it relates to but
based on the above it seems it must be the Home and Student version. I think
I would want to uninstall the Activation Assistant and the MS Office Home and
Student.
Thnks, Don

I missed two:
-Compatability Pack for the 2007 Office system, No size shown
-MS Save as PDF or XPS Add-in for 2007 MS Office programs
However, I do not think this changes things from my previous post.
thanks, Don

I know what I'd do - uninstall of thOffice versions, reboot, then install
the Pro version.

Thank you for the advice. Sometimes the a person needs a little steering
from an objective mind to get them to the obvious answer. Regards, Don MacKay
