Hi, I'm trying to install BCM for Outlook 2003. I tried the BCMV2UPD.exe download directly (181,389kb), but could not get it to work (the seemingly common "unable to initialise this form" problem). I'm not sure whether this is supposed to be a clean install, or requires V1 first. It certainly installs without any errors. MS phone support helped a lot, and tried many things but we couldn't get it to work. The eventual suggestion was to uninstall V2, and install V1, then try and upgrade.
Now I face a new problem. We only have 3000+ copies of Office 2003 Pro Enterprise, and it seems BCM is not on those install CD's. So how do I get a copy of BCM v1? I scoured the net and can't find it. Is it available as a seperate CD? I definately do not want to go out and buy ANOTHER copy of office just for this add on! That's an expensive way of doing things indeed.

Perhaps the form is not initialized because the add-in is not loading correctly. After installing v2, do you see the "Business Tools" menu when you start Outlook? If not, try clicking "Help | About Microsoft Office Outlook | Disabled Items", and enable Business Contact Manger if listed.
Also, check to see if the SQL Desktop Engine instance is running by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting "Manage". Then expand the "Services and Applications" folder and select "Services". Now scroll down until you see "MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ". Check the status. Is it running?
Let me know if that does not solve your problem. -- Visit team blog at http://blogs.msdn.com/bcm This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights "Andy Dove21" <AndyDove21[ at ]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:3B60F0FA-46A0-4210-A45C-0D9260249F65[ at ]microsoft.com... Hello Clinton, Thank you fo getting back to me.
I got home after writing my last note, and installed an old copy of Office 2003 Pro on an old laptop I have lying around, then installed the bcmv2upd.exe, and it worked perfectly. So I guess I don't need v1 afterall...
As soon as I saw your note this evening, I booted up the work laptop. It was in a state of having had BCM & SQLDesktop uninstalled (again). Reinstalled BCMV2UPD - went perfectly. Reopened OL, and got startup wizard. Created new database (this time it's called MSBusinessContactManager6!). Got to StartUp Complete message. Doubled checked that BCM is not working (it's not - same problem. Click on Business Contacts, then double click in blank area - get message "could not complete your last action", followed by the missing form (unable to initialize).
So, now to try your suggestion...
Yes, the business tools menu is present and correct. I can select (for example) the empty "Business Contacts Phone List", and everything works well.
Your second paragraph, I followed exactly to the letter. It reads "MSSQL$MICROSOFTSMLBIZ Started Automatic LocalSystem" (there's nothing in the Description column). So yes, I think it's running.
Looking forward to the next step :-) /Andy

Perfect Timing! Clinton, thank you for your suggestion. It worked perfectly. I'm puzzled as to why BCM and Infotriever were both disabled.
Andy, sorry to hear you are still having troubles, but thank you for posting your question last week. The suggestion was very timely for me.....AFTER A 10 DAYS OF PULLING MY HAIR OUT!

Hi Andy
Try installing the following update
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;913695
Do note you would require the service pack 2 for Outlook to be installed
before applying the update

Well, you're welcome. I'm still not fixed, but glad my pain put a smile on somebody elses face :-).
Spent some more time on the phone to MS support yesterday, and they've got some things they want me to try out. Unfortunately that involves asking the terribly nice IT folk at my work place (they might be reading this) if they wouldn't mind awfully reloading MSOffice onto my PC. So I'm stuffed for the moment.

Hello Raul,
If you could have seen me a few minutes ago, whooping and cheering, you'd see how much you improved my day. Thank you so very much indeed - your fixed worked like a charm. The program is working for the first time - I hope others that are suffering the same problem have similar luck with this fix.

Andy,
Our tech support will not assist with BCM. Even if you have the BCM toolbar try opening "Help | About Microsoft Office Outlook | Disabled Items", and enable Business Contact Manger if listed from Clinton's post on 2/23. I found BCM and Infotriever (an add-on to a travel service we use) were both disabled. As soon as I did that, closed Outlook and re-opened, everything worked. As long as you have BCM on any disc it should load. Also, you may have created several BCM databases (you referenced BCM database 6 or similar) in an earlier posting. Be careful which one you open. One will have your original info, the others may be blank. They won't do any harm, just frustrating because you won't get any info. Good Luck!
