Changing the default OneNote template
bball2 10/5/2008 5:46:00 PM
Is there a way that I can change the default OneNote template? (the white
ruled one with a date and time stamp)? I basically want a different template
to show up every time I create a new section and not have to set a default
template for every section.

I found the BLANK.ONE file in the OneNote Stationary folder and changed the
first page (Blank - default), except it still doesn't change the default
template. If I apply the template from the template bar (Blank -> Default) I
get the one I want, but if I create a new section, or go new -> blank
template, I still get the old one. :-(

What version of OneNote are you using?

To change the default template:
1. Open or create the page you want to be the new default
2. Place the page in the notebook section where you want it to be the
default.
3. With the page open (the one to be the new default) Open "File/Page Setup"
4. In the "Page Setup" panel on the right, look towards the bottom and
select "Save current page as a template"
5. Give the template a name
6. Check the box "Set as default template...."
7. When you create a new section, copy the original template and start at 4.

There may be a way to change it globally but I don't know how. Maybe one of
the MS pros can address that.

That's the step we're trying to avoid :-)

In ON2007, there seems to be no way of setting a default template for an
entire Notebook. It has to be done section by section.

It's a real pain unless you use a Powertoy such as
http://blogs.msdn.com/johnguin/archive/2007/12/13/template-manager-powertoy-for-onenote-2007.aspx
which does not use OneNote's internal template system (not that there's
anything wrong with that).

Yup exactly! It gets a bit annoying when you are working with tons of
sections in your notebooks.

As we are too :-)

For us,

Teachers = Notebooks
Students = Sections
Lessons = Pages

We have new students almost daily (private singing school) which means new
sections and new templates every time.

Bravo Ben Schorr

You never contradict yourself. As usual you chime in only to be in the spot
light. Were you able to help bball2 like SubSeaGuy and John Waller did?
