It's possible that the database is not in sql instance bcm is using. This might happen if you earlier upgraded from BCM 2003, and now you have a fresh installation of 2007.
Look in the Registry in HKLM\software\microsoft\Business Solution eCRM.
BCM will use the data in the value named SQLInstanceName when looking for databases. Is your database in that Sql instance?
