I have been using OneNote 2003 version for some time now and had downloaded various powertoys to print to onenote, copy web pages to onenote, etc. I downloaded the trial for 2007 today. I did not convert my 2003 notebook nor did I remove 2003. I understood if I did this, I could still use 2003. This is true - no problem with opening and editing 2003 notebook pages from within ON2003. Problem is, with the trial, I can't seem to open a new page or do anything with it beyond viewing the getting started and cool features pages that are there. The majority of the features on the drop down menus are grayed out - for instance, if I drop down file - new - only options available are page from template (which does nothing) and explain choices.
Surely I don't need to convert my 2003 notebook to 2007 to use the trial? I don't want to do that because I may not purchase 2007 and am afraid then my 2003 notebook would be rendered useless. Disaster!
Thanks for your help - June

Did you activate the trial of OneNote 2007? If you didn't activate it, you won't be able to use it to add content.
(My suggestion: Make a copy of your notes in the 2003 format and convert that to the new format after you activate the product. This allows you to test the 2007 product fully so that you can make an informed decision, but still leaves you a base to go back to if you decide not to upgrade. IMHO: You will like the new one so much better that you probably won't want to go back to the old version.)

Hmmm - I installed, then entered the key I was provided. I got an email from MS saying thank you for registering your trial. Is there another step to activate?
I suspect you are right - I will want the new version, looks like it has some things in it that are definitely worth it. Once I figure out about the activation issue, I'll do as you suggest and convert a copy of my 2008 notebook (maintaining the original). Duh...I should have thought of that. Thanks! j

Yes - activating is separate from registering. Go to Help--> Activate Product and follow the steps there.
Have fun learning the new OneNote. Much as I loved the old one, this one beats it hands down!

Thanks so much Kathy! Activating did the trick for opening up!

Glad to hear it. Funny thing is that I just answered a post on the PPT newsgroup about activating the full Office 2007 trial. Coincidence? Of just the way today is going?
