Office 2007 Pro - Purchased Product Key, Can't Convert Trial
philthy903 6/28/2007 4:54:02 AM
Hi All,

I've been trialling Office 2007 Pro for the last week, and the decision to
buy is a no-brainer - this product is superb. Installation of the trial
(replacing Office XP) went flawlessly.
I bought the product key online (again a no-brainer and so easy), but that's
where the fun ended.
I haven't been able to get anything other than the "product key is
incorrect" message.
I've pasted the key directly from the confirmation email, and I've also
tried uninstalling and reinstalling the trial files. I've even downloaded
them again, but no joy.
Really hoping someone can help with this - my trial time is limited and I
don't think I could bear a "downgrade" back to Office XP!

TIA
Phil.

(Personal comment - I will never buy a license online. I've heard of too
many problems doing so.)

Contact Microsoft, assuming that's who you bought it from, and tell them.
They can help you.

Problem solved -

Well, I took a chance today and threw a few extra dollars at a CD of the OEM
Preinstallation Kit (OPK).
(With 5 PC's in the house I'd need it eventually if I ever got the first
install going - besides, it was probably cheaper than last night's call to
the States).
Not only did it work with the product key I'd bought online, it also handled
the OEM Medialess Licence Kit I bought earlier by mistake - so Office 2007 is
now on the notebook too :)

The lesson out of all this?
If you live in Australia and like the trial version, ditch it and spend $30
on the OPK before you go any further. It's much better on the blood pressure.
A lot of this hassle would be avoided if the Activation Wizard was more
helpful (something like "The Product Key you provided is for Version X, but
you are trying to activate Version Y").

Thanks to all who contributed. Hope I can save someone else the grief I went
through.

Cheers
Phil.
