Word Converters for Office 2007
"Jim Gainsley" <jgainsley[ at ]rencocorp.com> 4/20/2007 2:04:32 PM
I need to convert some old Wordstar 7 files for use with Word 2007. Where
can I get the Converter Pack for 2007, like the one available for Word 2000
and 2003? (OCONVPCK.EXE) (This file doesn't seem to be available for 2007.)

It may never be available.WordStar 7 was a DOS-based program and the final
released was in Dec 1992. It was re-released in 1998-1999. Legacy programs
aren't going to be supported forever. If you have *any* chance at all, it
will be from WordStar or a third-party software developer, not Microsoft.

The converter pack you are referring to is for opening Office 2007 files
in Office 2000, XP and 2003.
If Word 2007 can't open Wordstar 7 on its own, then I don't know where
you could get an appropriate import converter from. Have you Googled
this already?

No, I know about the compatibility pack that you mention. I guess maybe
we'll just have to keep Word 2003 on a machine to convert all these old
files--it does that nicely, but it's very inconvenient.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. I'll check around, but if MS isn't going to do it
then it most likely won't happen. I notice they still convert WordPerfect
goodies, (we've never used WP).

WordPerfect is still being sold, WordStar 7 isn't. To put it rather bluntly,
why should Microsoft bother?

Hi Jim,

Some of the older MS converters are available through
http://gmayor.com/downloads.htm
but they're not supported by MS any longer, so use at your own risk :)

There are also 3rd party products, http://acii.com for example that provide converter packs for older file types and a Wordstar
keyboard emulator for Word from http://wordstar.org although I've not tested it in Word 2007.
