sync notebooks

I use notebook on my laptop and my desktop. I am trying to get them to sync.
I can currently get on my desktop and open the notebooks on my laptop and
type modify those all that I want to, no problem. However, when I get on my
laptop, all I can do is view the notebooks from my desktop. I can't type
anything in them.
I have already turn on the share over the network feature for both computers.
Any ideas?

The Onenote files are stored in the default folder in My Documents. In the
folder's sharing and security tab, I have enabled file sharing over the home
network. I have also clicked the box that says to enable users on the
network to modify the files. This is the setup for both computers, yet I can
only sync (modify) the files located on the laptop, that I view from my
desktop. The other way around (viewing the files on my desktop, from my
laptop), allows me to only view or copy the notebooks. When I try to type
in the notebook. it says that it is read-only or access is denied.
Is there a better way to make this work?
Thanks.

I just figured it out!
I moved my files in My desktop from My documents to the Shared Documents
folder. Then on my laptop, I mapped the network drive to that shared folder
and it worked. I am not sure why though. In theory, it should have worked
the other way too because I was logged in as an administrator account on the
desktop (but not the default admin account) when I tried sharing folders.
The weird thing is that on the laptop, I was always logged in on a limited
account.
I think you are right, I probably don't have my network set up exactly
right. It is probably gerry-rigged.
Either way it is working now. Thanks for your help!

I have deleted the onenote notebooks on the laptop and told it to only look
at the onenote files located on the desktop. Is that what you mean?
by the way....thanks for your help.

My laptop is XP home and I don't know that I even have that function
available to me. My desktop is XP pro an offline files are turned off.

Thanks,
I am figuring this out as we go. I do know, however, what Windows Explorer
is. It doesn't appear that offline files are "on" for my laptop. Everything
also seems to be syncing perfectly when I disconnect and reconnect to the
network.
