WLhen I installed BCM 2007 it created a new database instead of upgrading the 2003 database. How do I get the data from the old file? Is it a do over? -- Mikel Cook MCSE 2003

Mike,
Try copying your pst file from outlook. It will ask you which folders you want to copy, select "contacts." When you copy that back into your Outlook folder (look where it currently has your *.pst file, name it something different with a *.pst extension and then inport it. Sounds confusing and not intuitively appearant, but it works.

Mike,
Strange. Your BCM 2003 database should have been picked up by BCM 2007 when you first launch BCM 2007 to begin with. Please try it manually, by going through the "Create or Select a Database" wizard to re-use your BCM 2003 database. The wizard can be found under "Business Contact Manager" menu > "Database Tools" > "Create or Select a Database".
Hope that helps, -- John Huang [MSFT]

But the business contact data is in a SQL Server 2005 or MSDE database isn't it? I have my personal contact information in Outlook 2007 already, so that is good. It is the business account and contact data that is missing at this point. -- Mikel Cook MCSE 2003

I tried your suggestion, but it did not result in getting the data. I thought it strange that the install did not pick up the existing database, too. The install documentation for 2007 says it will save the old data in a backup file, but I don't see that.
The installation I did was to go first to Office 2007 Enterprise, but that did not include the contact manager. I ran the Outlook with contact manager after that, so I think the contact manager was unhooked from Outlook and not running when I did the install.
Maybe the next thing to try is to uninstall Outlook and reinstall OL2003 with BCM and get it going with the old database and then reinstall OL 2007 with BCM. Dunno if that will work, but I should not be any worse off. There is actually not much data so I could rekey it in, but I would like to learn a bit more about the intallation.
Any suggestions before I try to get the old version of Outlook working?

In BCM, click Business Contact Manager-> Create or Select Database. See if you 2003 database is showing up in the Select An Existing DB dropdown. Select it and follow the wizard. It will backup 2003 db, and migrate it to new fromat.

When I look under Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server I see three subdirectories. One is named MSSQL$MISROSOFTSMLBIZ, and the others are named MSSQL.1 and MSSQL.2. There is an instance of Office Accounting Express running under MSSQL.1 and the BCM is running under MSSQL.2. When I look in the SQL configuration manager I see only the MSSMLBIZ and SASMB_VRA instances. The third instance is not showing up.
When I check services I see only the two running instances of SQL Server, so the third one is not running and has no entry in the services list.
When I go into Business Contact Manager, I see only one choice for connecting to a database and it is named MSSmallBusiness. It is not offering me another option for a database.
I am not getting the opportunity to upgrade the existing database. -- Mikel Cook MCSE 2003
