Office 2003 Standard To New Computer
"Paul Chamberlain" <p.chamberlain[ at ]sbcglobal.net> 5/3/2007 7:43:17 PM
I installed Office 2003 Basic upgrade (over Office 97) several years ago. I
bought Office 2003 at retail - it is not an OEM or trial version. I am
taking the computer out of service and want to use Office 2003 on my new
computer. I installed it and the programs work fine but I can't get updates
because I fail the validation due to not being activated. When I try to
start the activation wizard I am advised that the product is already
activated and I don't get to see anymore information, such as a telephone
number.

So, I removed the Office 2003 from the old computer while connected to the
Internet. I still can't get to the activation wizard on the new computer.

I have seen discussions suggesting removing OPA11.dat so I did that and
still my product tells me that it is already activated but online updates
still fail validation due to not being activated.

Is there any prospect of activating my product on my new computer?

Thanks very much for any information in this matter.

Was there a previous version preinstalled on the new computer? Did you
remove that first?

Why yes, there was a previous version that I thought had been removed by the
installation of Office 2003. Removal of the previous version allowed me to
activate and get updates.

Thanks for your insightful answer.
