Outlook 2007 - Business Contact Manager - Sync
Norm 2/16/2007 5:50:42 PM
I've been reading a lot of the posts about sync problems with BCM and Smart
Phones. I'm a little unsure if these problems have been resolved with 2007.
Based on my experience, I think not.

I'm new to BCM and am just evaluating it. Some things look nice, but one
thing will stop me dead and cause me to drop it right away -- if I can not
sync BCM contacts with my Smart phone.

Information and contact is absolutely vital in business, and to have a CRM
and not be able to take those contacts on the road with your Smart phone is,
well, brain dead.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to sync BCM with Smart phone? If not,
I'm dropping BCM really quick and not proceeding with any further eval.

Norm,

It depends upon EXACTLY what you mean by "Smartphone."

MS Windows Mobile 5.0 has 2 editions: The full Pocket PC Phone edition
(touchscreen) and the Smartphone edition (non touchscreen). If your smart
device hardware is running the WM 5 Pocket PC edition you are in luck and BCM
has conduits available for your device to synch with. If your smart device
hardware is running the WM 5 Smartphone edition you cannot sych with BCM
without using a 3rd party tool from Chapura called Pocket Mirror Professional
for Windows Mobile. Go to www.chapura.com to learn more.

An additional note to avoid confusion: With their newest upcoming WM 6
release, MS is renaming the editions to WM Professional (for Pocket PC Phones)
, WM Standard (for Smartphones), and WM Classic (for non phone PDAs). This
will hopefully reduce confusion between what a specific hardware device is
referred to and the software it runs on.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the good info. And yes, I am using the "Smartphone" version of
Mobile 5.0, not the Mobile PC version (I have a Cingular 2125 phone).
