Can't Install Business Contact Manager - Login failed for user 'sa
David A. Gilmour 4/2/2007 11:06:04 PM
I am unable to install Business Contact Manager for Office 2007 under Windows
Vista. After installing Office 2007 Small Business suite, installation of
Business Contact Manager fails, with a message related to SQL Server setup.

SQL Server Summary.txt:

I have tried the following, prior to reinstallation attempts:
- uninstalling everything related to MS SQL Server 2005,
- uninstalling everything related to MS Business Contact Manager
- clearing out the folders below C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\ ..
- running the installer 'as Administrator'

... to no avail. The error repeats exactly, regardless of any of the above
steps.

I really need to be spending my time using this product, rather than
fighting with its installation. Any advice on solving this problem will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David A. Gilmour

When the installation fails for BCM, could you please go to run and type
services.msc. Once you get the services wizard, could you look for SQL Server
(MSSMLBIZ) and make sure that's running.

Thanks

Vinit,

Thank you for your prompt reply. No, SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) is not running;
it does not even appear in the list of Services at the time the installer
fails. The only SQL-related service that I see running is SQL Server VSS
Writer.

What next?

RE: Can't Install Business Contact Manager - Login failed for user
David A. Gilmour 4/3/2007 2:16:01 PM
Looking at the files on the installation set, I see that BCM is trying to
install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 1.

I am finding information out there describing incompatibilities between SQL
Express and Vista, the most helpful being these two postings in an MSDN blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2006/10/11/getting-things-working-on-vista-aka-dealing-with-user-account-control.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2006/11/15/sql-express-sp2-and-windows-vista-uac.aspx

I'm no SQL expert, so it is probably unwise for me to try to interpret and
act on the above on my own. Is there a step-by-step procedure that I can
follow, in order to work around any incompatibilities which may be causing my
installation problems? For instance, can I download and install SQL Server
Express SP2 first, before BCM?

If we can get Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager running on my
system today, I will be most grateful.

Thanks,

David A. Gilmour

Hi David,
So BCM is not able to install SQL express. Right? BCM wont install if SQL
Express is failing. Is there a phone number that i can contact you on?

Thanks
Vinit

Hi Vinit,

Correct, BCM is unable to install SQL Express. It would be great if you
could give me a call at +1-905-481-0704.

Thanks,
