Inking will not work in OneNote 2007
dra1002 6/4/2007 5:10:01 PM
After upgrading Office 03 Pro to Office 07 Ent, OneNote generates the
following message: OneNote requires Microsoft Windows Tablet PC Edition 2005
with Service Pack 2 in order for inking functions to work properly.
The system is a HP/Compaq tc1100. It has sp2. OneNote 03 had no problems
with inking. I reinstalled sp2, but still get the error. The pen works fine
in Windows journal.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dennis

Hi Dennis - Did you try backing your 2003 install out and reinstalling
Office 2007/TabPc 2005 sdk? My recollection is that we needed to
install v1.7 of the Tablet SDK:

Maybe that will help? Ben

Probably doesn't need the SDK but will likely need the recognizers.

Ben and John,
First, let me say thank you.

I followed both of your instructions.
First I tried the TabPC sdk. No luck. Then I proceded as follows.

MSO 2003 uninstalled. It had only one component, Visio.
MSO 2007 uninstalled.
MSO 2007 reinstalled.
I tried the pen with OneNote 07. Same error.
Installed the recognizers. Same error.
The inking function works in Word and Journal . In Journal, I used the pen
to write a word. Used the selection tool to select the word and then
"Actions" to convert handwriting to text.

Any more ideas?
Thanks,
Dennis

Ben and Josh,
Thanks for your help.
I followed your suggestions and installed the software you recommended. Even
after removing and reinstalling Office 07, I still get the error.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dennis

Hi Dennis -

Is there anything in the Application Log or System Log indicating
which assembly or assemblies are missing? Control Panel-

There are problems with the syncing between the newsgroup interface and the
communities interface. Microsoft knows it and is working on it. nup06
probably won't see this result, so they won't know the test failed. At least
now everyone else will know what is going on....

Ben,
Good idea about checking the logs! I forget this step much to often.
However, the owner of the tc1100 has taken it out of town. So, it will be a
couple of days before I can pursue the problem.

Thanks,
Dennis

Wait everyone, wait!

Just a websearch should have found it, if I could only hope : )
Please see here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/descapa/archive/2007/02/05/onenote-requires-tablet-pc-edition-2005-with-service-pack-2-what-is-that.aspx

-----------------------
We have an internal email distribution list where people can ask questions
to the OneNote product team and over the past months there have been a few
emails about this error:

OneNote requires Microsoft Windows Tablet PC Edition 2005 with Service Pack
2 in order for inking functions to work properly. You can install Service
Pack 2 from the Windows product pages on the Microsoft Web site.

When this occurs this is just because of an unregistered DLL and you can fix
it by doing the following:

1. open up a command prompt (on Vista make sure it is an elevated command
prompt)
2. cd "%ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Ink"
3. "regsvr32 /s inkobj.dll"
4. Close and restart OneNote

This should fix the problem you are having. Ideally you should never see
this but I am hoping that by blogging this if you search on Windows Live or
Google you will see this link and you can fix your problem : )
-----------------------

Does this work??
