Showing locked file by the admin who installed Office...
Stephan 5/14/2007 3:07:02 PM
Occassionally, I will receive trouble tickets from the helpdesk that my user
ID is locking an excel file, but I don't have that XLS file opened. The user
can only open it in READ-ONLY mode. These files are new to me and there are
no reasons for me to open them in the first place.
This is happening in a terminal server-Citrix environment. I installed
office on that server. I would like to know where it's picking up my name. I
went thru all menus using a test account and can't find my username anywhere.

Please help. Thanks Stephan

This may be too elementary, but perhaps someone is logging in with your
username and password? Try changing your password.

Thanks for the reply. I wish that was that easy! :( I tried that, not the
case.

I figured it out… Actually quite simple once you know… After the install of
office, I must have opened excel which filled in the user name field under
Tools>Options>General.

When I was done configuring de default profile the way I liked it, I copied
my profile to the “Default User” profile. Since there was something in “user
name” the user was never prompted to file it in and gave my name instead. I
cleared it and copied the “clean” profile one more time to the default user
profile. It worked with my test user. I will keep an eye on it for a few days.
