I purchased a brand new Gateway laptop on 3/14/2007. I have a green sticker with holograms. When I first put the Vista CD in the tray, the screen asked me for the product key. I typed in the product key on the official sticker. It did not accept it. I tried and tried (on different days, too) to no avail. Not required to register, I skipped the step and have been able to use the computer and download programs, etc. But I am afraid that in the future, I will be required to type in the dreaded product key, maybe when I will need to purchase software from Microsoft... and it won't be able to install or something will happen. Any advice? Should I be worried? Who should I contact? Microsoft or Gateway? Thank you! Oscar.

The Windows PID is on a sticker on your PC. For support, you will need to contact Gateway.

Because you have an OEM copy of Windows (came with the computer), you *must* contact Gateway. Microsoft cannot help you with OEM software.

Milly, Thank you for your post. I'll try to see if I see any other sticker on the laptop. Otherwise, I will contact Gateway and/or Microsoft. Microsoft already responded with several ideas/links and telephone numbers for me to call. As to the Outlook, I figured it out. My smtp address was wrong. I didn't have the right address for my ISP. Thanks again for your post and everyone's patience with me. I am not very technologically savvy. T.x.! Oscar.

JoAnn, Thank you. I will (don't know what OEM means, but I'll contact Gateway instead of Microsoft). Thanks again! Oscar.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer = Gateway in this case.
