After the trial period, you have to have the CD key. It will not activate without a key.

Which kind of licence have you got? Did you buy the machine with a *full*licence* or just a 30/90 days trial?
And: Which *version/edition* of Office have you got? (Standard, Professional, Home and Student, etc.)

OneNote has its own key. The key for Office Pro does not work for ON.
And: Have you bought a licence for OneNote too?
Office Pro does only include the following: - Access 2007 - Accounting Express 2008 - Excel 2007 - Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager - PowerPoint 2007 - Publisher 2007 - Word 2007 Pls see: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suites/FX101674091033.aspx
OneNote is *not* part of the "Pro" Office suite.
It's contained in the " Home and Student", "Enterprise" and "Ultimate" packages only. If you only have "Professional" you'd have to buy OneNote separately. Pls see here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/onenote/FX102464451033.aspx
Probably not the answer you expected. But it's the brute reality of MS' versioning.

"Believe" or "know" Over here in Germany we have a proverb "to believe means not to know" <bg>. Which version/edition of the Office suite have you got? If it's Professional, ON is not included (pls see my posting of yesterday replying to "metro mom".

That's almost always the case with keys from some other package.

im not 100% positive if its full or not sench i did not buy the software. it was just there. After trying the key it told me i have something like 49 more uses left before it has to be activated. this leads me to think its full. I have Office Enterprise(PRO) but onenote is not part of that. All office apps are 2003 edition.

Could be.

yes, one note is 2003 edition as well. does that simplify matters or just maker it harder?

Aha!!
> does that simplify matters or just maker it harder?
YES, makes things harder! Not as far as the "key" problem is concerned (which was discussed in this thread) - I really have no solution for that.
BUT: OneNote 2003 was working, but it was - more or less - some kind of a "first shot". ON 2007 is ways superior - or better sad: it's a totally new application based on the experience with the "first shot".
If you want to *work* with OneNote, don't waste your time with trying how to get the *OUTDATED* ON 2003 going. Get OneNote 2007 right away!
You may download the Trial version (fully functional, 60 days limit): http://us7.trymicrosoftoffice.com/product.aspx?re_ms=oo&family=onenote&culture=en-US
