Underlining in Word
attyin12 12/5/2008 3:18:11 AM
This is driving me crazy. When I am inserting underlined text (I position my
cursor in front of the character where I want to insert, turn underlining on,
then type my new underlined text), when I turn off underlining, it deletes
the underlining I just put in! How do I stop it from doing that? This seems
to be a problem if I start typing next to a character. If I start next to a
space or a punctuation mark, it seems to work correctly, i.e. the underlining
stays.

On the Edit tab of Tools | Options, clear "When selecting automatically
select entire word" and see if that helps. But I have it turned off and
still experience something similar fairly often (though more in FrontPage
than Word, I think).

Thank you, Suzanne. Your advice appears to have solved this bothersome
problem. I knew there had to be a setting somewhere!

Or you could type your text, go back and select the parts to
underline, and then Ctrl-U or use the U button.
