2007_Batch Conversion Wizard ???
"Mark Forman / DRC, TRCT" <77> 12/18/2008 8:47:04 PM
Folks...

Our administrator has canned Lotus Word Pro for our office...for good.
Now...one of our digital dinosaurs has hundreds of Word Pro docs (*.lwp's)
that need to be converted to the Word format (*.doc or *.docx). I was hoping
that Word 2007 had a batch conversion wizard...but I can't seem to find it
(or any info on the MS tech site beyond the wizard in v2003).

Can this be accomplished ??? This particular staff member will not be able
to handle a manual conversion...believe me (i.e., opening up each *.lwp in
Lotus; & saving it as a *.doc).

Thanks,

mark4man

Graham...

Attempting to perform a 'batch' conversion...many files at once.

Thanks (& thanks Tom also),

Tom...

Actually...I was following up on this white paper from MS Tech Net:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;313714&sd=tech

But...I found none of the 'Change or Remove Programs' add-ons for Word on my
office PC (XP Pro). The article lends one to believe it can be accomplished
from inside of Word (unless I'm reading it incorrectly).

Thanks,

MF

There is no converter available that provides a batch conversion from Word.
The only tool that may be of use is DataViz's Conversion Plus linked from
the MVP page and costs $49.99.

If you still have WordPro and it is capable of saving in Word document
format (probably RTF) then it may be possible to program it to perform the
batch conversion.

Conversion Plus may have issues with graphics in WordPro documents (it
certainly does when converting Word to WordPro). It would be worth
downloading the trial. Note that the trial adds all sorts of background
processes to Windows that you may not want - you can prevent it dowing that
with Startup Monitor (in any case an invaluable piece of security software
that will stop background processes being added to Windows without your
approval) from http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml.

Re: 2007_Batch Conversion Wizard ???

Microsoft neither had nor has any converter for converting any Lotus Word
Pro format to any format any version of Word can open. So, it does not
matter what front-end or shell or macro you put into the processing chain.

If Word Pro were still installed, you could open the file in it and save to
a non-Lotus format (Word Perfect or Word, for example) that Word would
either open or for which there is a file format converter. However, that
goes nowhere close to fitting a definition for 'batch' processing.
