Style options in the ribbon

I don't use styles at all and would like to switch off this pane because it
takes up a huge amount of space offering me things I don't want. In XP I
could customise toolbars and put macro command buttons in a toolbar instead.
Can I do this in 2007?

You cannot avoid using styles in Word. It is a style driven application. By
trying to avoid using styles you are merely producing documents that are
difficult to edit.

As for the direct question, you can edit the ribbon -
http://ribboncustomizer.com/ will help and you should see
