Opening a file in vista
Spring 12/18/2008 3:44:03 PM
I am trying to open a large document and I get the message -

Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested
site is either unavailable or cannot be found.

I am trying to open a document - not link to a site. The sender PDF 'd and
Zipped the file and sent it to me - but still got the same error.

Thoughts?

This is a Word newsgroup, so let's assume you want the file to open in
Word.

What happens if you start Word, and then try to open it using the Open
command?

Yes - I am trying to FIRST, get it out of my email and save it - then open.
I can't "save as" or "open" as I get that error message. So, I can't
actually get to the file.

Then this would be a question for a group dealing with your email
program (Outlook?).

It sounds like what you've been sent is a *link* to a document on a website,
not an attachment of the document itself. There could be any number of
reasons why you're being prevented from downloading the file - including the
possibility that the site is blocked by your IE security settings or may no
longer even be in operation. But as grammatim suggested it has nothing to do
with Word. Even if you didn't have trouble accessing the file location Word
can't open PDF files in the first place.

I'm not sure that even your email support will be able to help, especially
if you're in a corporate network - you may have to confer with your IT
people or possibly have the sender go about providing you with the document
in a different manner.
