I might be missing somehting but I have upgraded to BCM07 and opened an email from within a business contact and then opening the "History" form. When I open the email it no longer gives me the option to reply or forward from that location. That means that I will have to go and find the email somewhere else to be able to reply to it. If I am missing something I apologize but I really don't like that since the whole idea of putting all of the information from one contact in one place is to be able to work with it. So tell me where the reply is hidden that I can't see it? Jim

Hi Jim,
When you open the message, does it open as a "message" or "business activity" form? (observe the ribbon or the label/title on the very top of the form). If it is a Business Activity, you will not be able to reply since that email no longer exists in your profile. However if it is a message, you should be able to Reply, Forward etc.
HTH,

Not sure I follow... An e-mail message itself does not have history, the Business Contact has History. From the Business Contact, click the History button (in the Show group of the ribbon), then double click an email, and hit Reply.
Or am I misunderstanding?

Chris, this is an email sent a few days ago by a business associate. I opened his contact in BCM , clicked on "History", located the email in the list that was generated and the email opened. It opened as a business activity for some reason and not as an email. I am confused as to what a business activity is to start with as thet is a new term to me and secondly why is it not opening as an email? Thanks.

Durga, Thanks for the input. I am missing something here. Yes it opens as a Business Activity. Why? What is the profile that it is lost from? The email is still sitting in my inbox as it is just a few days old. Additionally, I have created a mail folder called "Keep" where I put all email that I intend to keep for further reference. So what is a Business Activity, a new term to me, and why did the email get detached, so to speak from being an email? Thanks.

Hi Jim,
Normally you will see a Business Activity form displayed when the original history item (in this case, message) is deleted from the BCM database. Business Activity shows information about the item which was stored in the database previously.
However in your case, you say that the email is present in your Inbox. It could be that when you received the email you were logged in as another user. (Observe the "Created By" coulumn in the History list). If the "Created By" column is not the user you are currently logged in as, you will see the message as a business activity. This is the case during a shared database scenario.
If the email is still in your Inbox, you can relink all your emails to open your email message as a message, and not business activity. Go to Business Contact Manager -> Manage Email Auto Linking -> select the emails of Accounts/Business Contacts you want to link -> select the Folder tab and select your folders (like "Keep" folder) -> click on Search and Link button.

you'll see the generic Activity form when Outlook cannot open the original item (Appointment, Task, or Email), usually because it has been deleted. In that case BCM display the Activity form with the information that was preserved in the BCM database.

Thanks for the response. I am beginning to understand. Jim

Durga, You bring up an important question for me. So are you saying that if I link an item to a contact and then delete that item, a "business Activity" is created and the information is retained in the history of the contact? If that is true then I do not need to have my "Keep" folder to store messages etc that I want to keep attached to a contact? I generated the Keep folder to be able to store the information so that it is available later. If what I am understanding is true then I can delete the items in the Keep folder and know that the information is being retained. I repeat myself in an effort to convince myself that this is true. Ha, Jim

This is true except one caveat. When BCM creates a "business activity" for linked email, it only stores part of the message body if the message is big. I believe the limit is 1000 characters or so. This limitation is due to permormance reason.
