Problems with BCM Error message.
Ben 11/20/2008 3:32:06 PM
We have Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager on all our XP systems.
Recently however we have had to buy a new laptop and it was only available
with a Vista install. We have Vista Ultimate (32 bit version) on the laptop
and I installed SP4 of the BCM package. This allowed use of the local
database option however, about once every 4 minutes we get a pop up error
message that only says BCM could not complete something it is trying to do.
No error code, nothing to give any indication as to what BCM is trying to do
at all.

I have confirmed that the user has Administrator rights on the machine
locally.

Can someone tell me how to find out what BCM is trying to do and then make
it where the error message stops please?

Hi Ben

Can you try installing SP 2 for SQL Express and see if you can repro the
issue

What is the size of your local database ?

The size is very small as the Vista machine is currently the only BCM we use.
Roughly 2100 contacts. File size is around 2mb-3mb.

SQL is up to SP 3 I believe. (May be SP 2)

This is a Vista Ultimate SP1 setup, fresh from the factory with all the
latest upgrades from MS.

Researching the web gives me the impression this is a 2003 and Vista related
issue. Something about Vista security not allowing the 2003 access to certain
things and causing the error messages.

I do know that is has gotten to the point the President of the company has
told me either fix it or uninstall BCM as he's tired of having to click the
message every few minutes.

Do you think upgrading to 2007 would fix it? Not sure we would do that for
just one machine (would mean having to put coversion packs on 30 other
machines for 2003) but might try a trial install and see if that fixes just
to know.

Any other suggestions? I've tried many I found on the web but none have been
successful....sigh

Turn on BCM logging and check the log after that message pops up to
see if it has any details.

This goes on for a long time. I can put the entire list for about 3 hours up
but its huge.

I think the issue is something on the menu bar but am not sure....I can post
the entire log if anyone wants...
