Hi,
I have posted this message before but, as the issue remains unresolved,
thought I would post again.
I cannot get the Office 2007 save as PDF or XPS addin to work on my
installation of Office 2007 Pro Plus on a Windows XP SP2 machine. I have
tried to remove, redownload and reinstal the add-in but I still get the same
problem.
The issue seems to occur in all Office 2007 products (well, at least Word,
Excel and Powerpoint). When I select the save as pdf option, the conversion
starts but then terminates and I get the error message "An error occurred
while Powerpoint was saving the file" or "Document not saved. The document
may be open, or an error may have been encountered when saving." (Excel) or
"The export failed due to an unexpected error." (Word). For Powerpoint and
Excel, selecting save as \ pdf or xps brings up a "publish" dialogue with the
default to save to pdf selected. In Word, however, selecting the save as \
pdf or xps simply opens the save as dialogue box and you still have to select
pdf or xps from the drop down list.
I have Adobe Acrobat 8 installed but have removed the Acrobat PDFMaker
Office COM Addin (the program specific add-ins do not load up any way as they
are not compatible with Office 2007 products and the only one of the Acrobat
add-in that is loaded is the COM add-in) but that has absolutely no effect. I
guess I could (but would prefer not to) uninstall Acrobat completely and see
what happens...
If anyone has any other suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

XPS is a PRINT function, not a "Save-as". Open the document, click on the
Office button, select Print-Print, and in the Printer name box, there's a
drop-down option to print to XPS. (Maybe that's where PDF is as well?)

Many thanks. Neither XPS nor PDF are available under my print options (Adobe
Acrobat PDF, of course, is) but are both available from save as (with the
save as PDF or XPS addin). However, I cannot get the save as option to work
and always get an error before it completes... Perhaps we are talking about
different add-ins?

Don't think so - I also run Office 2007 Standard on XP SP2 with the XPS
viewer add-in installed. I don't HAVE any option to "Save-As" for XPS.....

Yes we are! I've just found the Save-As add-in, installed it, and it seems
to be working OK. Perhaps you had a bad download and/or install?

Hi Gordon,
I have the combined add-in (Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS Add-in for 2007
Microsft Office programs) and not the "Save as XPS" or teh "Save as PDF"
separate add-ins - perhaps that is the difference? As I say, no options to
print to XPS or PDF (apart from the Adobe printer options) but both available
under "save as" - and both generating similar errors when I try to use them
(as detailed in my initial posting above). The add-in version No I used was:
12.0.4518.1014, which I did download a second time in case the initial
download was corrupt... Perhaps I should just try installing and using the
"Save as PDF" add-in (but I suspect that too will not work)...

That's what I downloaded and installed - maybe you need the XPS viewer as
well?

Thanks Gordon.
I am sure that the add in works for some (hopefully most!) users but it does
not work for me. I have tried installing it a couple of times and have also
redownloaded it twice to seewhether it might have been an error with my
download (no change in either event). The error message is less than helpful
(the operation failed because of an unexpected error) and what I guess I
really need is someone who knows what these errors might be caused by to
point me at things I might try to resolve the issue. I had thought it might
be something to do with Acrobat 8, which I have installed, but I have
deactivated th COM addin from Adobe (as it does not work with Office 2007
anyway) and that too hasnot made any difference. I do not really want to
uninstall Acrobat, and the save as PDF or XPS, the reinstall the save as pdf
or XPS just to see if this mightcure the issue...
Anyway, many thanks for your comments and suggestion. The issue, for me,
however, remains unresolved...
