2003 VS XP Shortcut Bar
John O'Boyle <john.l.oboyle[ at ]comcast.net> 4/10/2007 12:23:49 PM
I've been using Office XP for several years now, and I've recently
upgraded to Office 2003. I discover that Office 2003 no longer has a
neat little utility called the "Office Shortcut Bar". Why Microsoft
feels it's necessary to eliminate handy little features like this is
beyond me, but I guess I have to learn to live with it.

I still have my complete copy of Office XP and would like to know if
anyone knows a way for me to migrate the Office XP shortcut bar to
Office 2003. Any help in this endeavor would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Microsoft often uses focus groups to determine the popularity of a feature or
function. Looks like the Office Shortcut Bar didn't make the cut.

I'm fairly certain there is not a way to "migrate" the Office Shortcut Bar
from Office XP.

However, the Windows Quick Launch bar performs nearly the same function as
the Office Shortcut Bar did (which is probably a big reason why they nuked
the Office Shortcut Bar). If you haven't tried it, check it out.

Hi... just saw this thread... sorry if I'm dredging up old news but:

I use the Office Shortcut bar to "quick launch" Apps that are on my hard
drive while I use the Windows Quick Launch to run stuff that's external to
my PC... IE, Outlook, CuteFTP, mirc, etc. For one, this makes a logical
separation of "inside/outside" my PC AND it keeps my Desktop from being
cluttered (24 items on both bars and still have 19-20 on my Desktop).

So... does anyone know of an alternative to the Office Shortcut Bar??
Something that I can COMBINE with the Windows Quick Launch bar??

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Yes, you can add tool bars. Just right-click on a blank area of the tool
bar, click on "Toolbars", and then click on "New Toolbar". You can then add
anything you want to the new toolbar.
